{"id":9,"date":"2016-10-24T11:00:14","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T11:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zemindgames.com\/blog\/?p=9"},"modified":"2016-11-10T17:27:21","modified_gmt":"2016-11-10T17:27:21","slug":"test-blog-post-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.zemindgames.com\/blog\/test-blog-post-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Games: A Motion Picture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8230;And lo, I stumbled onto a mighty secret.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is work that goes into video games, especially when it comes to art. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Shocking, right?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watching game\u00a0art go from comment to concept, concept to sketch, sketch to portrait, and then portrait to animation is something to behold. The word animate is literally translated as \u2018To bring to life\u2019, something that has to happen to every movement you see on your mobile device.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, take this piece of concept art from our upcoming mobile release:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And yet, in order to pump this out, one of our artists (you can follow Patrick\u2019s amazing work <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PatrickGu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) took several hours to hand draw it in each one of its different positions, starting with the concept of an \u2018Angry Oven\u2019 and then push it, millimetre by millimetre, into a new frame.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"imgur-embed-pub\" lang=\"en\" data-id=\"a\/7vErp\"><p><a href=\"\/\/imgur.com\/7vErp\"><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/s.imgur.com\/min\/embed.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, because video games require a touch more masochism than anyone ever admits to, he\u2019ll do this seven more times. While the truth might be that the more you animate the better you become- the process never actually changes no matter how often you do it. Move that art. Move it again. And again. And of course, again.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To create the artistic assets in gaming is a labour of love, make no mistake about it. Pour your passion into several hours and then you\u2019ve got a somewhat animated product- Something which then has to be given to your cohorts so it can be meticulously examined and then tossed back; All so you can repeat the process over and over again. This goes on ad nauseum until you have the finished product, which may only be on the screen for a few seconds before fading into the background.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This gif was a second long. Now think about doing that 10+ more times for every single playable character animation (over 25 characters slated for our next game) and you\u2019ve got a tiny idea of what it takes to make this whole darn thing work. Don\u2019t even get me started on the environments!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hours and hours in return for seconds and seconds. This is the life of a video game artist\/ animation\u00a0designer. It\u2019s no wonder it can take years for games in development. The split second\u00a0existence of a character you just wiped off the map? That may very well have been\u00a0months of work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Think you&#8217;ve spent a whole lot of time in a game?
